Many are aware of the burden of violence on public health, but fewer are aware of the financial burden of violence and the research challenges related to studying population-based interventions. Because of the costs involved with program implementation, we believe that widespread use of violence prevention interventions should be tested for efficacy at some level. Herein, we will discuss the economics of violence prevention and the challenges of conducting population-based violence prevention research on a brief intervention.

Early Childhood Anger Management Clinic

Persistent aggression during the early years is a risk factor for violence later in life. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all young children be screened for aggression and counseling be provided as indicated.

To provide consultation for families of young children less than 7 years of age with aggression and anger management problems, the Division of General Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University offers the Early Childhood Anger Management Clinic, directed by Dr. Seth Scholer.
